Beresford Fire Featured on Iowa Public TV

According to the National Fire Protection Association, 72 percent of the more than 1.2 million firefighters in the United States are volunteers.

In most rural areas, volunteers make up the vast majority of firefighters. A case in point can be found in South Dakota where nearly 95 percent of those answering the call are volunteers, and even the State Capitol of Pierre is protected by a volunteer department.

Producer David Miller spent a few days with several fire companies in South Dakota earlier this fall and filed this report.
