With the federal government making ICS a priority, alot of people have been askng why? It is important to remember the basics of ICS. It allows incident commanders to expand or retract based on the incident. Why do certain departments run ICS on every call? They are practicing. For example, how many "usual" EMS calls do we go on every year? Alot! Does every incident have the potential to become bigger? Absolutely!! Besides only having to deal with a few people on the radio, ICS allows us to maintain control of the incident as incident commanders. The federal government is implementing this because it works. Try incorporating this into your SOPS and make sure everyone follows it. We mutual aid with each other all the time. It's important that we use common terminology on the fire scene so everyone is on the same page. I know there are people that don't think we need to use it and won't use it themselves. Thats because they are scared, or unsure on how it works. Besides having a scene run smoother, it also cuts down on the radio chatter that we all hear every day! | | This item includes 1 comment |

[This article was originally posted on Slashdot.com ] Congestive Heart Failure is becoming more and more common. While there isn't a large degree of understanding of the condition, many scientists believe that the heart expands in order to pump more blood as a reaction to damage or valve problems. Scientists have designed a new "heart-reinforcing corset" to help combat congestive heart failure. The "Heart Corset" is attempting to control the expansion of the heart thereby reducing the chance of failure | | No comments for this item |
